KL Rahul has been appointed as the vice-captain of the Indian cricket team for the ongoing Cricket World Cup. This decision was made after Hardik Pandya was ruled out due to an ankle injury, confirmed by the ICC. Pandya had previously been named the vice-captain but missed several games due to his injury. The senior selection committee chose Rahul to be Rohit Sharma’s deputy for the remainder of the tournament. Rahul, who had been attending bowlers’ meetings as a specialist wicket-keeper, will now participate in all team meetings and play a key role in decision-making as the vice-captain.

KL Rahul appointed as vice captain of Indian Team in place of Hardik Pandya

One of the reasons why he was preferred over pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is because, from his vantage point as a wicket-keeper, a better understanding of the game can be had by Rahul during the course of the game.

Rahul’s performance in the World Cup has been excellent behind the stumps. In a recent press conference, he mentioned that he has become more resilient by seeking professional help to ignore distractions. He also shared that he took inspiration from the team captain, Rohit, and did not reduce his use of social media in recent months.

“I’ve worked hard on this. I tried to tackle the issue. I used to believe that outside influences wouldn’t affect me, but in the last year, they started to have an impact,” Rahul stated during the interview in Lucknow.

“I made an effort to improve mentally. It was necessary to become mentally tougher and more resilient. Being away from the game helped me with this. There are experts in various fields, such as batting and bowling, as well as mental coaching specialists, whom you can collaborate with if you think it will be beneficial. So, I experimented with different approaches,” he explained.
