In her first speech in Rajya Sabha, the Upper House of the Indian Parliament, Murty — the mother-in-law of former UK PM Rishi Sunak and wife of Infosys co-founder NR Narayana Murthy — said, "In India, we have 42 World Heritage sites, but 57 are pending. The absence of the Mahayuti alliance partner Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s wife Sunetra filed nomination for Rajya Sabha elections as the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidate have raised eyebrows.  Interestingly, leaders from the Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) camp, another ally in Mahayuti, were also notably absent. Sunetra Pawar, the wife of Ajit Pawar, filed nomination papers for Rajya Sabha after she suffered a defeat in recently held Lok Sabha elections against NCP (SP) leader and Sharad Pawar's daughter Supriya Sule. Ten Rajya Sabha seats from seven states have fallen vacant after the members got elected to the Lok Sabha in the recently concluded general elections.  Of the now-vacant seats, seven were held by the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), two by the Congress and one by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).Of the vacant seats, two each are in Assam, Bihar and Maharashtra and one each in Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Tripura.   The Election Commission of India is yet to announce the poll dates for these Rajya Sabha seats.
