The Salman Khan-starrer Tiger 3 witnessed an expected jump revenue on day two of release, which unconventionally happened to be a Monday. The movie made Rs 58 crore on its second day of release, according to industry tracker Sacnilk, which takes its domestic nett total to over Rs 100 crore in just two days. The worldwide gross of Tiger 3 is approaching Rs 200 crore. Directed by Maneesh Sharma, Tiger 3 opened with Rs 44 crore on Sunday, Diwali, setting a new record for Salman but falling short of the Rs 57 crore that Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan opened to earlier this year. With this, Tiger 3 eclipsed the Rs 53 crore day two record set by Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan, and delivered the biggest-ever Monday haul in Hindi cinema history.

Both Pathaan and Tiger 3 are a part of the YRF Spy Universe, which also includes the Hrithik Roshan-starrer War. All three stars appear in the film, adding to the excitement around it and somewhat countering the mixed critical response that it has received. With Rs 102 in the bank already, Tiger 3 is expected to continue performing well through the first week, which also includes the Bhai Dooj holiday on Wednesday. Globally, the film delivered a record gross of Rs 94 crore on day one, and is fast approaching the Rs 200 crore mark already.

According to Sacnilk, Tiger 3 registered 48% occupancy for the Hindi language version on day two, with most of the revenue coming from the Mumbai and Delhi-NCR regions. The film also received a muted release in the Tamil and Telugu belts, where it reported occupancy of less than 30% on day two. Tiger 3 isn’t generating the sort of interest that Pathaan did in the South.

Salman is coming off of a series of under-performers at the box office. In fact, his last outright hit was the second Tiger film, Tiger Zinda Hai, in 2017. Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, the film made Rs 565 crore globally. Since then, Salman has starred in Race 3, Bharat, Dabangg 3, Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai, Antim: The Final Truth and Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan. The first Tiger film, Ek Tha Tiger, was directed by Kabir Khan and made over Rs 330 crore worldwide.
