Tiger 3 advance box office collection: The Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif-starrer is receiving an unconventional Sunday release; will the gamble pay off?
Two days ahead of its release, YRF’s Tiger 3 has already sold tickets worth crores on opening day. The film is receiving an unconventional Sunday debut, coinciding with the festival of Diwali. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Tiger 3 has already sold tickets worth Rs 12.4 crore, across formats and languages.
The third instalment of the Tiger series of spy movies starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, the film is also a continuation of the larger YRF Spy Universe, which also includes War and Pathaan. The stars of those two movies, Hrithik Roshan and Shah Rukh Khan, are expected to appear in cameos in Tiger 3, directed by Maneesh Sharma.
According to Sacnilk, the film has generated around Rs 11 crore from the Hindi language release, around Rs 16 lakh from the Telugu dubbed version, and just over Rs 1.7 lakh from the Tamil version. It looks like interest in a Salman Khan-starrer isn’t as high as it was in Shah Rukh Khan’s movies in the south of the country. Salman previously attempted to make inroads in the South Indian market with Dabangg 3 and his last release, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan.
Sacnilk reported that Tiger 3 has sold tickets worth over Rs 50 lakh for the premium IMAX version, and over Rs 12 lakh for the 4DX version. A single ICE cinema in New Delhi contributed Rs 63,000 in revenue. As far as a state-wise breakdown is concerned, Tiger 3 generated the most revenue in the NCR and Mumbai regions, which contributed Rs 1.4 crore each. In an interview with Indian Express, trade expert and producer Girish Johar predicted a Rs 100 crore global opening for the film, which isn’t expected to eclipse Pathaan’s Rs 57 crore domestic debut.
Tiger 3 also stars Emraan Hashmi as the main antagonist. The YRF Spy Universe will continue with War 2, which is currently filming with Ayan Mukerji at the helm, and Hrithik starring alongside series newcomer Jr NTR. A second Pathaan film is also planned, as is a spinoff rumoured to star Alia Bhatt.
