India- The comeback
The minister detailed numerous initiatives driving India’s progress in the last decade. Significant campaigns like “Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao” and projects such as Digital India and Startup India were emphasized. The Awas Yojana focused on housing, contributing to the nation’s development. These multifaceted endeavors, showcased by the minister, have played a pivotal role in shaping India’s positive trajectory.
“The long answer actually lies in this range of initiatives that all of you have heard about for the last ten years. Initiatives like Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao; initiatives about building toilets for girls, about the Jandhan Yojana, the financial inclusion, about building houses, the Awas Yojana…And these other campaigns…Digital India campaign…the Startup India campaign, the Skill India campaign…it is when you connect these dots, it’s really when you see the cumulative impact of all of this on the lives of people, that is the change which is underway in India,” Jaishankar explained.
Reflecting on the past decade’s monumental changes, the minister emphasized a socioeconomic revolution in India. He pointed out a substantial increase in the number of universities and colleges created, surpassing the previous 65 years.
Shifting focus to diplomacy, Jaishankar stressed the necessity of reshaping India-UK relations. Acknowledging mutual transformations.
he highlighted the importance of crafting a contemporary-era partnership between the two countries.
India with UK
“We are today trying to reframe the relationship between India and the UK. We are trying to do so because, in the last many decades, our two countries have each changed profoundly.
We have changed in ourselves, our relationships, our linkages and approaches to the world.
therefore, it is important that we prepare a partnership for a contemporary era in which we look to explore new convergences to see if there is unrealistic potential out there,” said Jaishankar.
Currently on a five-day visit to Britain until November 15, Jaishankar has engaged in crucial meetings. Notably, he met with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at 10 Downing Street and had discussions with the recently appointed UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron.
These diplomatic interactions are significant in fostering relations between the two nations and addressing mutual interests.
