India Triumphs in 5th T20I as Mukesh Kumar and Shreyas Iyer Lead Dominant 4-1 Series Win Against Australia.

In a nail-biting encounter at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday, December 3, Arshdeep Singh showcased nerves of steel during the last over of the 5th T20I, helping India secure a thrilling 4-1 series victory against Australia. Despite conceding 37 runs in the initial 3 overs, the left-arm pacer held his composure, allowing only 3 runs while defending 10 against the favored Australians.

India, defending a total of 161 runs, faced a challenging situation, particularly with the aggressive Travis Head amassing quick runs in the powerplay. Although India took two wickets during this phase, the run rate approached 10 RPO. The hope for India rested on the spinners yet to come into play, but early on, it seemed India might fall short of the par score.

In a crucial moment, Captain Suryakumar Yadav entrusted Ravi Bishnoi with the ball in the fifth over, and the move paid off with a wicket of Travis Head. Despite a commendable effort by Bishnoi and Axar Patel, securing three wickets on a challenging Bengaluru pitch, they couldn’t replicate their stifling performance from Raipur. Australia’s Ben McDermott, however, emerged as a standout player, crafting a strategic innings with five well-timed sixes, notably against Arshdeep Singh, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, and Mukesh Kumar.

McDermott’s calculated 54 off 36 balls brought Australia close until Mukesh Kumar’s crucial double-wicket over turned the tide. Despite Matthew Wade’s heroic 22 off 15, India successfully defended the target, marking the third instance in Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Shreyas Iyer’s impactful contribution further fueled India’s aggressive start in Bengaluru, setting the tone for a memorable victory. Yashasvi Jaiswal showcased early promise but fell victim to a top-edged short ball from Jason Behrendorff.

In yet another instance, India faced a mini-collapse, a developing trend for the team. During the 4th T20I, the rapid dismissals of Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav mirrored a familiar pattern. This trend persisted in the final T20I in Bengaluru as Ruturaj Gaikwad and Suryakumar succumbed within a span of 14 balls.

Despite Rinku Singh’s recent heroics, his rare failure occurred when attempting a big shot off Tanveer Sangha in the 10th over of the innings. The subsequent contributions from Jitesh Sharma (24 off 16) and Axar Patel (31 off 21) were insufficient to alter the game’s momentum. Shreyas Iyer played a resilient inning, following a typical MS Dhoni approach. His gritty knock, culminating in a four and a six in the final over against Nathan Ellis, helped India post a respectable 160/8 on a challenging M Chinnaswamy Stadium pitch.

However, Iyer’s dismissal on the third ball of the final over, courtesy of a searing yorker, marked a potential growth curve for the Indian batter. Despite achieving his 8th T20I half-century with a score of 53 off 37 balls, Iyer’s departure left India to defend their total. Ravi Bishnoi and Axar Patel held promise on the difficult pitch, but it was Mukesh Kumar who emerged as India’s star in the death overs, claiming 2 crucial wickets in the 17th over. This pivotal performance secured India’s series victory with a 4-1 margin, all under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav.
